On August 17, 2024, the Consulate of the Republic of Indonesia in Songkhla Province, Thailand, held a flag-raising ceremony to commemorate the 79th anniversary of the Proclamation of Independence of the Republic of Indonesia. In this honorary agenda, four alumni of the Ahmad Dahlan University English Study Program (PBI UAD) were selected and participated as Flag raiser members in the independence ceremony. The four alumni who were given the honor to raise the Red and White were:
- Siti Aminah, S.Pd.
- Hairunisya, S.Pd.
- Ayu Wahyuni, S.Pd.
- Firna Iranda, S.Pd.
The independence ceremony was led by Consul General Suargana Pringganu and was attended by more than 600 guests, including consulate officials, members of the Consulate Women’s Association, and Indonesian citizens in southern Thailand.
The four ELE SP UAD alumni are International Teachers in the “ELE SP UAD Alumni Teaching” program in Gadjah Putih Country, along with dozens of other alumni. Every year, Thailand routinely invites ELE SP UAD graduates to teach in that country.
Ayu Wahyuni, who was one of the Flag raiser, explained that to become a Paskibra member through KRI Songkhla Thailand, the process started with KRI Songkhla Thailand first opening recruitment. After that, prospective members could register via the link provided. Next, they took part in the interview stage. The final process was the announcement of the election results.
According to Ayu Wahyuni, this experience was very precious and made her and her friends from ELE SP UAD Alumni proud. Along with them in the alum teaching program, they were the raisers of the Red and White Heritage Flag in their home country.
“To prepare, we trained for more than two months. During the training, we were trained by the UN in physical training and discipline, as well as in raising the red and white flag. The feeling of being chosen to be one of the pack is happy and grateful because you have been given the opportunity and trust to represent the Indonesian people to raise the red and white sangsaka in Thailand,” said Ayu Wahyuni.
